Today I will show you one more side of my personal life. Apart from being a petroleum engineer and a beauty blogger, I am a voracious reader and always have a “currently reading” novel in my life. Every night, after the hectic day of job and travelling and blogging, I love to tuck into my comforter and read a book. I read every night without fail. As soon as I finish a book, I have to get a new book otherwise I feel something lacking in my life. I believe that reading is one of the best ways to take a break from our normal lives. Read a very good quote on a crossword bookmark some days ago…” A man who doesn’t read is no different from a man who cannot read!” In fact, Crossword is one of my favorite places to be in this whole wide world: D I will review my favourite books in the coming days on the blog.
Coming to today’s book, it is Private India- by Ashwin Sanghi & James Patterson. I received the signed copy from BlogaAdda as part of the Indian Bloggers Book Review programme.
Summary of the Book
When a series of seemingly unconnected murders rock the city of Mumbai with the macabre rituals and artefacts found around the corpses, Private India, a leading investigation agency takes the case. Santosh Wagh, the head of the organization, has only one mission. He needs to stop the killers before they strike again. However, in a city of over 13 million people, he finds that the clock is ticking too fast. He finds himself pitted against underworld dons and a Godman who isn’t what he seems. However, the worst is yet to come and Private India itself may be threatened with a revelation that could destroy the entire organization.
My Take on the book:
When you read the back cover of the book, you think of it as a fast paced thriller story based in Mumbai. The moment you have an initial glance at the pages and the fonts and the chapters, you begin to feel that it is more of a childish attempt at making a thriller story. Me being an avid reader, I know how a classic book looks and feels like. The fonts are smaller, the chapters are well written and are atleast long enough to make you feel that you are reading a novel. This on the other hand, has one page long chapters and large fonts which make it look more like a secret seven or a famous five book. I am just talking about the initial look and feel of the book here. The story, on the other hand, is gripping but not like classic thrillers where you cannot keep the book down. It is set in Mumbai, India’s Bollywood city where a series of murders in a strange manner shake the entire city and Private India, a detective Agency, take it up upon themselves to solve the case. The serial murders have one thing in common. They all have mysterious trinkets tied to the bodies which depict the different forms of goddess Durga. There are few other plots going in the background which I feel are unnecessary additions as they are not that relevant to the main plot. The main character is Santosh Wagh, head of Private India who takes upon the task of solving this case. One good thing about the story is that you will not be able to guess the killer till the very end which makes you want to finish the book fast.
Overall, the story is gripping enough and amateur thriller readers will love it. There are some loopholes in the story and a few unnecessary additions but I enjoyed the book. Serious avid thriller fans won’t like the book that much but for those who are just starting with the genre, it is a worth read!
